August 2016 LEGO City Sets (60132 60133 60134 60100 60101 60102 60103 60104)

In addition to the LEGO City Volcano sets, LEGO City will see an expansion to the Airport theme with sets varying from starter sets to an actual airport. There are also two sets outside of the Airport and Volcano theme and they are 60132 Service Station and 60134 Fun in the Park (City People Pack). Its been a while since we had an Octan Gas station! The new 60134 City People Pack also features the first ever baby in stroller as well! All of these sets will be available beginning this summer in August 2016.

As an annual tradition, there will be a LEGO City Advent Calendar as well. This year, the calendar will be released in September.

LEGO 60132 Service Station - $89.99

2016 LEGO City 60133 Advent Calendar - $29.99

LEGO 60134 Fun in the Park: City People Pack - $39.99

LEGO 60100 Airport Starter Set (81 pieces) - $9.99

LEGO 60101 Airport Cargo Plane - $24.99

LEGO 60102 Airport VIP Service - $49.99

LEGO 60103 Airport Air Show - $89.99

LEGO 60104 Airport Passenger Terminal - $119.99

Is it just me or are these prices insane? NINETY dollars for the 515 piece service station? The 60076 Demolition Site has 776 pieces and it retails for $90. TLG, please explain the need for this price hike. All it means is that more and more children will not be able to afford LEGO anymore and that's something that I don't want to think about.

City prices have been insane for years now, I won't buy anything that isn't a starter pack or a $20 vehicle because of the prices. In what universe LEGO thinks a gas station is worth the same price as three planes and a hanger that has 150 more pieces is beyond me.

The price on the Cargo plane is pretty agreeable, but outside that I'll have to hope for clearances, since I like the sets.

I remember when Lego didn't skimp on baseplate like nowaday city sets: service stations came with a dedicated baseplate and airports came with at least 4 runway plates. Then again airplanes back then weren't Playmobile size monstrosities that
actually required assembly.

I hadn't noticed the prices for LEGO city sets. It is strange that they are priced so high compared to piece count.

According to what I've read, City sets tend to be big sellers without Lego doing much of anything. If the price is going up, it's probably because they're trying to boost profits through a reliable part of the brand.

Somehow, I wonder if Dimensions failed. Every store I've been in has piles packs and starter sets of it gathering dust.

But on the bright side, set 60134 has gotten a lot of attention. I'm really liking the Lego baby and the minifig in the wheelchair. The baby's just adorable. The wheelchair using minifig seems like he'd have an interesting story to tell. A lot of the characters in this set are interesting.

Man, I really want to get my basement Lego land set up.

That's interesting to hear that TLG sort of relies on City to boost profits. That actually makes a lot of sense, but I've also heard that they have increased their sales by 25% each year for the past few years so I don't know why such a steep price hike is necessary. It seems like those collectible mini figures add a dollar every year. I wouldn't be surprised if the Disney Series was $5 a pop.

I would say it's safe to say that Dimensions failed miserably. You can get just about any of those sets for half the price just about anywhere LEGO is sold. I imagine LEGO took a huge hit with Dimensions and is trying to recover with these price hikes which is unfortunate for us.

I agree, 60134 is the only City set that I must have, all of the rest I will pick up if I can get them for 25% or more off.

I'm excited for 60102. I'm going to put a turret on that limo and set it up for roaming the streets of Los Santos

We really need to stop with the "LEGO Dimensions is a huge failure!" talk, because it's wrong. For all we know LEGO made them overpriced so they could stick them on sale after the fact.

Because from LEGO themselves....
Among the top selling lines in 2015 were core themes like LEGO® City, LEGO® Star WarsTM, LEGO NINJAGO, LEGO Friends and LEGO® DUPLO®. Furthermore, the new fantasy theme LEGO Elves is off to a good start as is LEGO DIMENSIONS, a new play experience that merges physical LEGO brick building with interactive console gameplay. Like with LEGO video games, LEGO DIMENSIONS is developed by TT Games and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

I would be shocked if TLG put all that time and money into Dimensions to sell it for half of its MSRP.

LEGO has been known to release sets and then stick them on 'discount' right away to just get things in their sales pages.

LEGO is not a publicly owned company, there is no need to release a statement at all and they themselves said it has a 'good start'. You want to ignore the official statement then go right ahead. The sets should have been $10 at most and I think LEGO knows that.
