What sets are in your "backlog" to be built?

Post by atmail35 » Sat Mar 03, 2012 12:03 pm

So there was some discussion in one of the sales and deals thread about people having a stockpile of sets to build. I thought I'd start a discussion here

I just went down to the basement and there are way too many to list. Big ones include:

Taj Mahal (this is my husband's and it was a gift from me Christmas 2010...and it still sits)
Fire Brigade, Grand Emporium, Pet Shop
King's Castle, MMV, Mill Raid and other Kingdoms
QAR, Black Pearl

I bought everything on sale or at least w/ double VIP points. In 2011, I went a little crazy w/ TRU BOGO 50% off and LEGO Store 10% coupons. I think I spend to much time searching for deals and don't allot enough time for actual building. :what?: And display space is a bit of an issue too.

The modulars are my project. Kingdoms would be a combo of me/husband and daughter building them. Maybe once I clean up the basement a bit!

Do what's on your "to do" list?

Black Pearl
Grand Emporium
Kings Castle (Kingdoms)
Ogre's Dark Fortress (from Castle Line)
King's Castle Siege (from Castle Line)
Palpatine's Shuttle
General Grevious Starfighter
Lunar Limo
All the latest Kingdom's sets except the king's Carriage
and a bunch of polybags.

Mainly I haven't tackled the big sets yet since I'm literally out of display space and have to disassemble a bunch of sets before I can set up the Castles, the Pearl and the Emporium. Of course, as soon as I pick up the Joust, Pet Shop, Town Hall, excetera, I'll be right back to where I am now.
Either that or move to bigger house. LOL.

A Star Wars X-Wing and Tie Fighter. I don't think I have anything else that I can remember. :-D

I boxed all my City and Town stuff to make room for large Technic sets.

I think I'll just quote myself from that thread:
autobrick wrote:I've got Hogwarts Castle, Green Grocer, Grand Emporium, Fire Brigade, Brickbeard's Bounty, Battle of Endor, Maersk Train, Emerald Night, Imperial Flagship, MMV, Mill Village Raid, Whitecap Bay, Podracers, Fire Temple, City of Atlantis, Airport, Police Station, Scorpion Pyramid and Diagon Alley all waiting to be built.
Some I missed:
Battle of Alamut
Farm (the big one from the recent City subtheme)
Home One
Winter Village Toy Shop/Bakery/Post Office

I'm slowly making progress through a couple of sets; I just built the Dino Defense HQ and Sith Infiltrator the previous week (got one for the dinos and the other for the figs; maybe I'll keep the Sith Infiltrator intact).

Basically, if a set is less than $50, I will open it up within a week. Otherwise, it will sit gathering dust in the closet or under the bed/'build table'.

For me the AC Mothership, TIE fighter, podracers, MF, a set of S6 and a bunch of Ninjago spinners (all 2012 ones) have yet to be built. I hold off from opening them in case a better discount comes around.

My problem is kind of a birthday/Christmas present backlog. I too went a little crazy on sales and BOGO and now I have presents for my two sons for so far into the future I'm not even sure when I'll be able to tell them about it. I imagine a day when they're...maybe in high school or something...when I can tell them I once had the following sets under our roof without telling them about it: Millenium Falcon, Emerald Night, Police Station, Volkswagen Camper Van, Alien Mothership, Earth Defense HQ, General Grevious' Starfighter, T-6 Jedi Shuttle, Cars Big Bently Bust Out, Fire Brigade, and the PQ Pyramid. There might be a couple more small sets. I'm starting to forget where I've hidden them. ;-)

I've been buying stuff for future use as my kids are 2 and 3 so we have a few years of Duplo before the good stuff come out:

To be built:

3x Maersk
2x Yellow Cargo Train
3x Red Cargo Train
3x Emerald Night (less one engine)
4x Red Passenger Train
10x Track Boxes
4x Level Crossing
Pet Shop
Grand Emporium
Green Grocer
Fire Hall
Apple Tree House
2x Hill Side House
Imperial Flagship
Black Pearl
All of the DC Superhero’s sets
Probably have more but can't recall lol

I have way too many unopen sets... probably more than I have open. I've opened pretty much all my Castle as that's my favorite theme =) I'll list some of the better / bigger ones:

Death Star
Super Star Destroyer
Imperial Shuttle
Imperial Flagship
Green Grocer
Grand Emporium
Fire Brigade
Tower Bridge
Farm
Diagon Alley
Maersk Ship
Maersk Train
Emerald Night
Red Cargo Train
Yellow Cargo Train
Black Pearl

Don't have space for em, plus those sets I will want to display, which I don't have space for at the moment... not until I buy a home in a few months.
I have mixed feelings about new releases: I can't wait to see and get the new sets... but I can't figure out where I'm gonna put them or store them.

Some of these are for my son in the future, some are for investment purposes (e.g., 3 of the King's Castle) and some are for me. Easy enough for me to list because I keep an "unbuilt inventory" in an Excel spreadsheet. Though I think I'm missing a couple...

Looking at the length of my list, I think I may have a problem...

This thread makes me feel better, lol. I was anxious about my 3 big sets that were "backed up" so to speak. Just yesterday I got around to putting together Queen Anne's Revenge. But my remaining two are:

Kingdom's Joust
Creator Hillside House

I have more of a backlog of sets to break-down and sort than I do of sets to build. I think that warrants an opposing topic...

I must say that it's reassuring to see a topic like this... when I came out of my DA I kept reading stories of people who had dozens of unopened Lego boxes in every corner of their house.. I did not understand this and I remember telling myself that it would never happen to me...
hum..hum

2 years later I have the following list of unopened boxes patiently waiting to be built:
2 indiana jones sets
AC command center
2 large racers
Public transportation
A couple of mid sized city
A Star Wars pack that I honestly do not know why I bought it
... and I probably forget a few.

Shame on me.
The problem is that I just don't have the time... I spend all my free time MOCing.

I have a 4 foot pile of LEGO set yet to be built including diagon ally, police station, mobile command center marina, most of the atlantis sets and many others. some day I'll get around to building them.
This topic reminds me very much of these Greg Hyland comics:

HA, yeah... I'm the guy in the first two panels of the first comic then. The only thing I have that's backlogged is "Cad Bane's Speeder." Just got it as part of my MBA L3 pre-order/Double VIP/free shipping order, and my daughter wants to build it with me. She's trying to pencil me into her busy schedule. :what?:

Actually, now that I think about it, that's not exactly true - I have three extra copies of Space Police "Smash 'N Grab" and a couple (three, maybe four?) of "Construct-a-Zurg" still in-box (both purchased when they each dipped to 50% off or more last year), and one each of PoP "Ostrich Race" and "Desert Attack", but those aren't intended to be built - just deboxed and sorted into parts. Well... maybe I'll build "Ostrich Race" since I haven't yet, and maaaayyybe one of the "Smash 'N Grab" since that's a fun set.

I've also yet to build the two other models for MBA L2, Kit 5 "Creature Designer" - only got around to building "Tyrax", not the "Fighter Ant" or "Space Whale".

UCS MF. Got it for xmas in 2010. I did open the box and checked out the manual. My problem is where to put it after it's done.
