How did you end up getting the free shipping?lawpepperdine wrote:Agreed! Just walked into Lego store and bought 5 for free shipping feature. Army building time!nick91884 wrote:$50 is worth it just for the minifigs, the rest just seems like a bonus to me

I was confused at first by the post too. But the key word is "walked into Lego store". Whenever you go to the LEGO store to buy something that is available online buy not available at the store, they will order it for you directly delivered to your house for free. I have never tried actually but was about to do it one time and then decided to get another set that was in the store.harry99 wrote:How did you end up getting the free shipping?lawpepperdine wrote:Agreed! Re: LEGO Kingdoms Chess
Lemus is correct and sorry I did not clarify. The LEGO store can log in for free shipping to send directly to your home. The only caveat is they couldn't enter my wife's VIP account at the time. They said I need to either call LEGO customer service to have them add the VIP number or bring the packing slip in once delivered and get the points added in store. Seems easy. The reason for this is because their system no longer allows them to be signed into user account and use stores free shipping option. Apparently there was some misuse going on in the past.

Re: LEGO Kingdoms Chess
I'm wondering if I can do this on May 16th and get the Hulk minifigure with the free shipping... I'll be going in anyway to get some other sets. The employee I talked to said you can get a Hulk minifigure per $50 you spend so I plan to get the Quinjet and more minifigure series 7 to at least get 2. Getting a third would be nice with the chess set.lemus wrote:I was confused at first by the post too. But the key word is "walked into Lego store". Hmm... the problem is my local lego store is more than 100km away from me. Would be nice to get the free shipping as they usually gouge Canadians (higher MSRP, higher shipping, 13% tax for Ontario, etc. etc.).

Re: LEGO Kingdoms Chess
Wow, was excited when I saw this but after checking it out I got kind of disappointed. I know this chess set is way cheaper than the old ones, but the pieces anyone can make or already have if you were collecting any recent kingdom stuffs. Also the base quality resemble the Ninjago battle area base which is kind of shitty. Yet over all the price is not that bad especially with the promo comming on monday, so I might think about it. Final thoughts: Lego seems to be heading downhill lately with sub par design decisions, and making almost everything in china, and I really hope they will not let Mega bloks or Kre-o pass them in quality, else it will spell the end of Lego as we knew it.
Re: LEGO Kingdoms Chess
It is interesting that they told you that you could get multiples of the hulk per each $50. Until a year ago, the store I visit would do this, but recently they would give you only one promo. No matter if what I spend is 2 or 3 times the minimum for the promo. Just a couple days ago, I asked the manager about the hulk figure and she read me official instructions from LEGO and they clearly said something like one per person per transaction per day. She told me the most I could do was to bring a friend and each would get one if we do two checkouts.silvashado wrote: The employee I talked to said you can get a Hulk minifigure per $50 you spend so I plan to get the Quinjet and more minifigure series 7 to at least get 2. I guess some stores follow the guidelines more closely than others. But I do prefer this store as opposed to the other LEGO store I have nearby. Because they are more friendly about their PAB.

Re: LEGO Kingdoms Chess
I guess it will depend on the store and your relationship with the employees. My husband and I are officers of the local LEGO club and we're in the store all the time. We buy a lot personally, we also buy to help the club and we do the LugShowcase. So they know us very well and sometimes give us deals, when they can, but I make sure not to ask very often because I don't want to cheat others of their opportunity for deals or get the employees in trouble.lemus wrote:It is interesting that they told you that you could get multiples of the hulk per each $50. If they change their mind or I get a different employee when they ring us up, I'll just split between my husband and I so we can at least get 2 minifigures. If we want more, thankfully the store is not too far from us, we can just go the next day. It's always fun to go to the LEGO store.

Re: LEGO Kingdoms Chess
My guess is they want to allow more people to get the offer as supplies are limited. I wanted to get multiples of TC-14 buy spending more than $150, but no go. Why? because I was thinking of reselling it. Imagine others like me or full time resellers coming into the store and buying enough to get 3, 5, 6, etc TC-14s each. The other business sense is some would buy one set over $150 anyway for just one TC-14.lemus wrote:It is interesting that they told you that you could get multiples of the hulk per each $50. Re: LEGO Kingdoms Chess
This looks like a great set for the price. I'm actually kinda surprised they never did this for Harry Potter. I mean they had a giant chess board in the film and they haven't done a chess set yet?
Anyone know if there will be Free shipping with the Hulk promo too like May the 4th?

Re: LEGO Kingdoms Chess
Sure the flimsy base is bad, but it is really awesome that they have all those shields for the pawns. They missed the shields for the polybag guys, so this is nice in that regard (even if their not the updated shield). The flimsy base could also be thrown out and let do whatever you need for a grand base. The biggest attraction is to get that many Castle minifigs for $50.
One change could have blown this out of the water: a grey 10"x10" base instead of green. I would buy like a dozen instead of 2 if that was the case.

Re: LEGO Kingdoms Chess
They probably did not do the HP one because of licence agreement between them and Universal... a set like that would have been too expensive. The advantage with doing a set like this (Kingdoms) is that they don't have to pay roalties...Buttmunch wrote:This looks like a great set for the price. Re: LEGO Kingdoms Chess
I went into the LEGO store yesterday, did a ship-to-home order of this chess set and the LotR Gandalf Arrives set, which got me the Hulk minifigure and One Ring Poster and free shipping. Great deal!

Nice! Did they give you the Hulk in person or will it ship with the sets?silvashado wrote:I went into the LEGO store yesterday, did a ship-to-home order of this chess set and the LotR Gandalf Arrives set, which got me the Hulk minifigure and One Ring Poster and free shipping. Great deal!

Re: LEGO Kingdoms Chess
I picked this up so my husband can teach my child chess.
1) Minifigs require assembly - not glued
2) The grey moulded part is ok...it is not as flimsy as the Ninjago battle arena thing. And it is not shiny plastic, it has a matte sort of finish. Not the best quality, but not horrible, IMO.
3) The box is a nice strong cardboard for storage.
4) The baseplate also is not glued to the grey part.
We haven't put it together yet, but those are my first impressions.

Re: LEGO Kingdoms Chess
I bought this set because I've always wanted a Lego chess set and didn't want to build one up over time or go on the aftermarket. It looks great for the price IMHO! It's been a while since they released a chess set isn't it? I mean, at least one that is priced to sell to the common man.

Re: LEGO Kingdoms Chess
Ya, I would love to see me a LotR inspired chess set, if nothing else for the minifigs. Unfortunately I don't think that's going to happen. I have no idea how the licensing works, but I do recall reading something on a Lego CUUSOO idea. The person wanted to make a tub on 100 Star Wars minifigs, 99 Stormtroopers and 1 Darth Vader. a Lego rep responded to him saying this:Buttmunch wrote:This looks like a great set for the price. "This is a (very) fun concept, but since we have the construction toy license and not the action figure license for Star Wars, it will not be possible to release a set consisting solely of minifigures. If the Dark Bucket concept were to go further, it would need to include some significant brick-based model component to be considered a construction toy for licensing purposes."
So ya, I dunno if a chess set would count or not since it's mostly just the figures in it. I guess it depends.
Re: LEGO Kingdoms Chess
This seems like a superb set!! If only LEGO would come out with a LEGO Star Wars chess set, maybe with a "significant brick-based model component."
