[USA] LEGO Lord of the Rings at Amazon

Post by thornie » Mon May 14, 2012 11:22 am

Three of the sets are now available on Amazon.com (US). Interesting to see Helm's Deep is still $130. Wow, that's a bit high even if it is MSRP.

Hoping Amazon has the cheaper sets on sale soon so I can use my credit.

It's not a bad price, about 10 cents per piece which is usually a good price for a licensed set.

Thanks for the Amazon heads up! Ordered Weathertop and Helms Deep. I already got the Mines of Moria coming from Target.com with the Orc Forge. Odd that I've got all of the expensive sets on order now and none of the cheapies!

With any luck Lego.com will have them Wednesday for the Hulk promo. Or maybe the Monsters.

Ya I just ordered Helms Deep and Mines of Moria. I got Weathertop at Target with the Orc Forge. I really want Shelob set but have to wait for amazon.

$130 seems expensive, but then it is fair since all the walls are made from small pieces and there isn't any castle blobs. If we are patient, we might be able to get it for $104 during a good sale. What feels the most expensive is Weathertop for $60. Imagining 2 Weathertops vs 1 Helmsdeep or 1.5 Mines of Moria, Weathertop just feels pricey even though its a nice dense set.
Multiples of Uruk-Hai Army at a sale price of $24 will be pretty sweet. That set is probably going to be the most popular.

I wonder when B&N online will be getting them in - they usually allow coupons; for the first little while at least.

Yes, same here - I have been checking twice daily for the past three or four days.

I wouldn't be holding my breath on b&n anytime soon. They never listed the Marvel sets after giving a preorder peek at them months ago. They could shock everyone and drop them at any time....but I don't think they will be there any time soon. Hopefully they prove me wrong.

Ya, I was hoping B&N would get them myself so I could get the standard 10% off then use the 30% off coupon on the Helm's Deep set. Unfortunately they seem really hit and miss, and I decided I didn't want to wait around for weeks on something they may or may not get. Just wasn't worth the few bucks saved imo

Amazon had Uruk-Hai Army in stock yesterday for $29.99. Gone now. Didn't check other sets.
If I wanted an army of 100 Uruk-Hai, I would need 25 sets. $30*25=$750. 100 is just a 10x10 arrangement. So much money for too little pay off in my mind. Maybe if I committed $3000+ to the Helm's Deep project it would have some sense of scale... Should I even really bother? Should I just watch the movies and play the games?

Amazon has a notice that something is wrong with their Helm's Deep inventory. Did anyone order it from Amazon and open it?

Weird, I wonder what the issue is.

They did the same thing with the Fire Brigade missing bag issue. So it is probably a production error with a missing bag or sticker sheet... etc.

I opened mine but haven't built it yet. All the minifigs are there, nothing else is noticeably wrong.

Man, I just thought of the OOPS All Cookie Dough Ice cream Ben and Jerry's put out one year. (Or some other ice cream company).

Wouldn't it be cool if the sets were: OOPS All Minifigs! So Helm's deep would have a little over 400 minifigs.

It's probably something stupid like they forgot to print the Choking Hazard warning on the boxes and print on the bags.

Well, it'll be fun to find out.

My box was pretty badly crushed when I got it - contents fine but the deformation was bad enough that I took pictures and submitted a report. The shipping box was kinda weak and they only packed with paper, not air-cell. If enough people got copies that were packed like mine, I can see them getting enough complaints to trigger some kind of review.

Very odd. Amazon had all the sets available less than 12 hours ago, and now some of them are not available again. Are people buying up their inventory that quickly?

Most of the sets are still showing as available directly from Amazon for me still. Helm's Deep, Weathertop, Mines, and Shelob's Attack are all in stock and shipping (though Shelob's notes there may be an additional 1-2 days processing). The only two sets Amazon doesn't have, and are available from a third party are Gandalf Arrives and the Uruk-Hai Army.
