[USA] Wal-Mart LEGO Clearance Fall 2012

I went to 2 different Wal-Marts nearby yesterday and was disappointed. Barely any LEGO products were on sale. Maybe one. Too bad.

Question: Are these sets marked down with clearance tags, or do you have to use the price scanner most of the time?

I've been finding some stores are using shelf tags only, some are using clearance tags. Even with Clearance tags, the prices are often lower than marked. Using the in-store scanners or the Walmart App helps to weed out these discrepancies.

About a month back, when I found the random Podracers sets for $17 they were still marked on shelf tags and on the box as over $60. Scanning is the name of this game.

Thanks! I've noticed a bit of differences like that at my Wal*Mart in Lynchburg, VA - the Alien Conquest Jet-Copter set is marked $30, but rings up as $19.50. Unfortunately, that and Ultimate Build Mater are the only Lego sets on clearance for half-off. Everything else is around 1/3 off or less (like the Podracers, still at $64. I do scan them frequently, though!).

Most Walmart toy departments won't get around to labeling clearance lego for days or even weeks after the clearance occurs in their specific stores system.

Another effective method to save money at Wal Mart is to utilize Site to Store pick up.

For instance, Black Pearl online price is sold out @ $81.48.

However there is a good chance you may have a walmart within reasonable driving distance that has them in stock for MSRP @ $99.97. A lot of Walmarts never clearanced BP for some reason while many did for $69 (now likely long out of stock).

search your region for available stock and make that Walmart your store.

Now you can order the BP for the online sale price for store pick up even though the Black Pearl shows out of stock.

The order will go through and be fulfilled! just wait for an email for pickup.

If using this method to buy BP's just make sure the location you find them at don't already have them for $69! >.<


Personally I will always scout locations and take a note of stock for this reason. Many times an item will go on sale online then go out of stock online. I can look up which location had ample stock, make that location my store, and make a pick up order via website.

Black Pearl is the perfect example right now. Out of stock virtually everywhere and sold out at Lego shop @ home, $82 isnt bad at all!

Only set on sale at the Huntington Beach, CA (south of the 405, off Beach blvd.) is Quinjet Aerial Battle for $55 (reg $69).
There were two left on an island display by the bikes.

The Coralville, IA Walmart has 3 AC Motherships left in the clearance aisle for $29.50 each (50% off). They're marked at $45 but ring up at $29.50. There's a Harry Potter set that rings up with a discount (The $49.99 Hogwards set). I think it rings up at $39, but not enough of a discount to make me buy it. Other than that everything shows up at the listed prices.

I already have a spare Mothership so didn't buy any last night.

What I described is what to do on walmart.com. the site.

For instance, when you go to Walmart.com you can choose your local store within 'x' miles in zip code 'x'.

So the trick is to find a Walmart in your area with BP's in stock. Unless you make that particular location your 'home' store , BP will show up as Out of Stock for shipping and it will show as Out of Stock for Pick Up.

Click on "find in another store'.

All your area Walmarts will pop up that have BP in stock.

Simply choose that location as your 'home' store and now you can place a Pick Up order online for the Black pearls at the sale price of $82 ish.

It does take a little bit for the website to update your 'home' store so the option may not appear immideately for you to make an order. but it shows up pretty quick.

This is a great way to circumvent all the out of stock items that Walmart.com will have now that they have a considerably decent sale online and many Brick and mortar Walmarts won't have such sale prices.

The caveat of course, is that you have to drive and pick up the order from Walmart but its worth it.

you don't need the app really, but it is extremely useful at times.

I checked for the Black Pearl online and found it listed in stock at 1 walmart in town. I went by there today and none to be found. They told me they packed up all the clearance and stuck it out in a shed until next year when they have room to put it back out. Wonder what would happen if I ordered it online for store pickup and they couldn't find it?

They cancel the order. Had this happen to me at a store that was supposed to have four Whitecap Bays, but no one could find them. I tried the store pickup to see if by chance they would turn up.

For anyone in the Albany area, the Glenville Wal-Mart had 20 Black Pearl for $69. They were on an endcap in the clearance section near the the toys.

I was able to stumble on a couple of good deals while out at a Walmart out of town for me. I picked up:
9486 Oil Rig Escape - marked $35, rang up as $20
4530 The Hulk - $6
9481 & 9478 Mini Cars Sets - both at $5 each, which was nice since they are becoming harder to find.

Using the Walmart number just today at a local store, an associate found three City Marinas in the back, and I purchased one for my son for Christmas for $20! Score :) As outlined in this forum, I used the find it in store online to find a store that had it before calling. thanks!

Found great deal using Walmart app. Got captain America for 5. Lord of the ring weathdrop for 25. Bat mobile and 2 face for 25. As well. Nothing else around my area though.

I use my iPhone Walmart app and there is a list that can be saved. I scan all the items that I want and save on the list. I can then go into each stores on the phone and the list will change price and isle from each Walmart. Problem is that sometime it says limited stock and when I get there, the set is nowhere to be found.

Went into a Walmart about 40 miles from home on the way home from a trip. Found Malevolence, Jabba's Palace and Ninjago Ultimate Dragon all on the clearance shelf, and clearly marked as clearance. Unfortunately, they all rang up regular price. Talk about a total let the air out of your sails moment.
