FYI - tried to get Vampyre Castle after I already pulled the trigger on the Ghost Train last week. Even using my wife's email address, it doesn't let the "first time customer discount" go through, says it's only applicable one time per household.

That sucks :(

Anyone know what the criteria is to use the new customer coupon? Is it just address, since it obviously isn't e-mail?

Yeah, I tried to use the new customer code twice in the past, but had a great deal of trouble. You'll have to use different emails and different credit cards to get it to work, and even then it might not go through.

Always use Paypal and create a new account with a different email. This hasn't failed me after multiple orders to the same address.

I ran into this problem too, back in June when they ran another promotion. The deal explicitly said "one per customer", yet Yoyo refused to honor it. Their customer service and I emailed numerous times about it, and they basically said: "We don't care what the deal terms on the website were, we meant one per household." Afterwards they changed the deal terms on the website to "one per household." Haven't had that frustrating a customer service experience since I dropped cable TV years ago. Wouldn't want to have any other service problems with them; I'd have no confidence that it would resolved correctly. They clearly could care less about their customers. Really strange for a company owned by Amazon, whose customer service is usually excellent.

Long and short of it -- we're never buying from Yoyo again, and I can't recommend that anyone else do so either.

I've dealt with their cs as well but had a completely different experience. Long story short they gave me a larger discount than i should have gotten. So definitely depends on which cs rep you speak with.

Honestly, I don't understand this statement. Even though I was disappointed that the promo code wasn't accepted due to the "one per household" thing, I originally commenced the purchase KNOWING that what I was doing was counter to their intention. I figured if it worked, well, good! If it didn't, then they have very knowledgable and skilled web programmers

Getting indignant after they refuse to honor a one-time-use promo code twice is a bit silly. A 30% discount is pretty huge, and they're offering it on one item for each of the satellite sites in what they call the "familyhood" - nine sites in total. Additionally, The package containing my "Ghost Train" arrived THE NEXT DAY after I ordered it.

Anyway, I just tried the Paypal payment route and it worked. But even if it hadn't, I wouldn't be sour about it. They seem to be a quality site with superb selection and incredibly fast free delivery. They'll probably shore up the Paypal payment discount code loophole soon enough, and I won't be irate about that. There are discount codes and other offers out there, I'm sure.

EDIT: As for Amazon customer service, well, I've had my issues...

Thanks, decided to buy the castle. Glad I waited on the train. My son would much rather the castle. He has wanted a set with the rounded staircase for awhile and this one was on his list.

Well, we did not commence the purchase knowing it was counter to their intentions. My wife and I are both signed up for Amazon Local, and we both received separate solicitations for this promotion. And the text of the offer clearly stated "one per customer" and said nothing about one per household, even on the terms and conditions. If they're going to send us separate solicitations, they should expect us to behave as separate customers.

The weird thing is that there was no sense of customer-friendly service whatsoever. No compromise. No thanks for us pointing out that they had used the wrong wording in the deal terms. No we're-sorry-you-misunderstood-our-policy. No niceties at all. It was pretty much we don't care what the terms said we meant one per household and you can just **** off. You don't like it? Go get a refund from Amazon Local. Really left a bad taste in my mouth. I mean, whether you honor the deal or not is one thing, but at least be nice about it and admit your mistake.

I agree though that the one order we did successfully place was fine and arrived quickly. I certainly don't want to stand in the way of anyone else getting a good deal. Just letting everyone know about my bad experience, so you can make an informed choice. But I'm not so desperate for LEGO that I'll order from them again. Because I don't want to reward that kind of behavior, and I have zero confidence that they'd do the right thing if anything went wrong again. Caveat emptor.

I could be wrong (I've deleted all the relevant emails from the various NY/NJ-based companies) but I think those guys (YOYO, CASA etc) were badly affected by Sandy. They may not be feeling very cheery.

Ah, now that's a horse of a different color - I can see why you then expected to be able to both use the promotion and had a dissatisfying customer service experience that left a bad taste in your mouth when you were flat-out denied. It's unfortunate, but I would hope this type of experience is an exception.

Hard to say if it's the exception or not, as I had the exact same problem with them. My sister and I both did the amazon local promo that clearly said 1 per person. When she went to place her order though, it rejected her code(and marked it as already redeemed!). It was quite a hassle to get them to eventually honor it, and I also plan on never ordering from them again.

Thanks for the heads up to try a paypal transaction vynsane! I was able to maximize and get one more x-wing at 40% off. I've only had good experiences with yoyo.com. Everyone should buy through them for a good deal and fast shipping.

It appears that Yoyo focuses on the payment used for verifying "one per household." Create a new account with a different email and use a different card if you want to maximize savings.

Use paypal to be on the safe side, I think I tried different cards once and it didn't go through. Also if you use paypal it's easier to make mulitple orders with one card.

Sadowsk1 that was me with the paypal idea! haha :-D

Btw, to everyone, prices on yoyo are changing constantly across all themes, so best bet is to check everyday to see if the sets you want are on sale.

My apologies kwkw. I scrolled upwards and vynsane was the first name that came up that used paypal. Thank you for the helpful hint!
