Collectible minifigs ever on sale?
I can't believe I miss out on series 1 through 8 cause I didn't even know they existed. Are they ever on sale or do they run out of them before the sale. It also suck that these polybags are random minifigs.
Re: Collectible minifigs ever on sale?
I'm not aware of anything currently.
But to answer if they are "ever" on sale - Series 7 and 8 were on sale for $1.49 (iirc) on S@H for Black Friday. I think they sold out in the first 10 or 12 hours but they did go on sale.
Also, any buy one get one for 50% off (like TRU runs now and then) usually works for minifigs (keep in mind you are paying TRU tax - the 2.99 MSRP go for 3.19+).
As for the randomness... You can google "lego bump codes". Evidently the earlier series were easy to decipher. Series 8, I watched a video, made notes, went to the store, couldn't see them without a magnifying glass, so... random it is haha.

You should be able to get a lot of them on BrickLink.thehotsung wrote:I can't believe I miss out on series 1 through 8 cause I didn't even know they existed.
I've gotten pretty good at feeling them out, thought it makes me feel like a deviant. It also suck that these polybags are random minifigs.

Sales happened frequently at local retailers.thehotsung wrote:I Are they ever on sale or do they run out of them before the sale.

OMFG I did not know, it wasn't listed under sales and deals on here.The-Daryl wrote:I'm not aware of anything currently.

Sure it was... I think it used to be in Black Friday forum (all those threads moved to USA sales/deals now)...thehotsung wrote:OMFG I did not know, it wasn't listed under sales and deals on here.

Posted on the 21st before sale went live.
And actually re-reading that, IF you spent more than $149 you got to take an extra 10% off your order.
Only 350ish more days before Black Friday rolls around again hehe.
But seriously, like Legohunter said, there are some decent sales at local retailers, and like Vynsane mentioned there is always Bricklink... Steer clear of Ebay and Amazon for CMF though, nothing like a five cent figure with $7.98 shipping/handling.

I went To the Lego store and felt around the packets for pirate minifigure and the employee gave me the dirtiest looks. Only going to do that at big box stores from now on

Really? Most of the time, they help out. They really don't mind at my store.mgs wrote:I went To the Lego store and felt around the packets for pirate minifigure and the employee gave me the dirtiest looks. Only going to do that at big box stores from now on

+1, the employees are glad to feel them out for you. They even have pre-felt packs behind the counter.slacker wrote:Really? Most of the time, they help out. Same here - in fact the guy who helped us at the Palisades Center store was an absolute CHAMP, I'd never seen someone go through an entire bin of figures as fast as he did - and 100% accurately, to boot (at least for what we ended up bringing home).slacker wrote:Really? That's interesting that employees help sort them out. I wonder if there is a larger conspiracy at work because I ordered the max through S&H for Black Friday and ended up with a concentration purely of football players, skiers, thespians, and businessmen. I wondered to myself if they all got unloaded en masse because not as many people wanted them. Nearly six of each. Hm...lol. Probably just bad luck. Good price though.
Re: Collectible minifigs ever on sale?
I think there's a big difference between buying them in a LEGO Store vs. buying them from the S@H site. They're already out of the box at the store (at least they were at the store I went to) and the employee came over and explicitly asked which ones we were looking for. In the S@H fulfillment department, I'm sure they have to just grab the exact amount and throw it in your shipping box - it's not like they're going to hand-pick (30? 50?) figures making sure to get one from the back of this row, the front of this row, maybe a few from this other box... they're going to grab a handful from row 1, count, grab another handful from row 1, count, rinse, repeat, until they've fulfilled the order. We know that the original CMF boxes are packaged with the same assortment in the same order, so that's why you got a bunch of the same ones - they were taken from a box where they were packaged together. You just happend to get the rows that contained those figures.sadowsk1 wrote:That's interesting that employees help sort them out. Re: Collectible minifigs ever on sale?
This started way back in series 4 or 5 in the NJ store. they pre-sort them because they were getting so many returns. With plenty of down time, they can amuse themselves as to who can do it faster. Palisades store started doing it too because the NJ stores were taking their business away because of lower taxes. only good thing is that Palisades is open on sunday and NJ is notsadowsk1 wrote:That's interesting that employees help sort them out. Re: Collectible minifigs ever on sale?
I don't know of "sales" per se, but I have gotten a couple for free. I put in a reasonably large order with S@H just around the time series 7 was being retired and series 8 was coming out and they threw in a couple figures as a "VIP thank you gift" according to the note. I'm used to getting a little polybag with purchases over a certain value, but those are advertised promotions, the free CMFs came completely out of the blue.
As for "mystery" bags, I'm sure it's a great gimmick for some, in the finest traditions of baseball cards, pogs and other old school collectables. I prefer to just buy the figures I want on bricklink. There a plenty of venders who buy CMFs by the case, open them, sort them and repackage them in zip-lock baggies, complete with the instruction sheet. Prices vary with the popularity of the figure and the vendor, but it's usually not that much more (and occasionally less than MSRP for less popular but common figures) to take the guesswork out of the process and get exactly what you want.
