REINSTATE CLASSIC MODELS?

Post by shoopalego » Fri Aug 31, 2012 8:46 pm

Search didn't turn up for this topic. Fairly new to LEGO and loving every minute of it!

Was wondering if LEGO ever brings back retired sets, like the 5000+ pieces set; the Millennium Falcon, Republic Gunship...? Former is going for thousands of dollars on ebay/amazon and no matter how much I love'm, not spending that much on LEGO's.

Or do they just recycle models but change designs/piece counts? Though I think latest MF is good, not as fancy and desirable as the UCS version. O'course the latest version is more consumer friendly... But, just can't stop drooling over the USC MF.

Does Lego do this on purpose to keep its value?

TYIA for your input.

No but they should. They could post polls on their website asking which 1 of these 5 models would you buy if it was “rereleased”. 1978 Yellow Castle is what I’d want.

There were a number of sets that were re-released under the 'Legends' monicker between 2001 and 2004. Someone composed a Bricklist of them over at Brickset. I think it would be a smart move on LEGO's part, to make some of the profit that is currently solely going to resellers. By the same token, it could alienate collectors who paid an arm and a leg for the original version on the secondary market only to see a reasonable facsimile come back out at or near MSRP.

Also, I'm pretty sure this topic has been discussed before, I'll have to dig around and merge it if/when I find it.

UCS has been around for over 10 years. They have never re issued any one of those sets. How lego makes money is coming out with new things. With that said, I would love to have that technic space shuttle myself.
