[REVIEW]: Collectible Minifigures Series 10

Post by hatcher » Tue Apr 23, 2013 7:04 am

Set Name:Collectible Minifigures Series 10
Set Number: 71001
Theme: Collectible Minifigures
Year: 2013
Pieces: depends on figure
Minifigures: 1
MSRP: $3.49 (CDN) $2.99? (USD)

These guys are so new, they aren't even listed on shp@home yet! (As of April 23rd), so

here's the link to the minifigures page at LEGO:

http://minifigures.lego.com/en-us/Defau ... r=lego.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I've tried to collect every minifigure since series 1 (of which I only ever got 8 of the 16 due to low production.) I thought that every series got better (with the exception of series 8). How does series 10 stack up?

Series 10 comes in gold foil wrapper. Choking hazard warning on both the front and the back.

Each pack comes with the standard insert that shows you the 16 figures available in the set. The back, wait a minute? Where is the usual "mix and match" diagram they usually have? Well, unless you've been living under a rock in a cave at the bottom of a crater on Mars for the last year, you know that series 10 features the ultra rare (only 5000 made) Mr. Gold. From a collecting stand point, I hate LEGO for doing this. From a business stand point, its a brilliant move. Series 10 should sell like crazy as people try to grab the elusive Mr. Gold. Apparently one has already sold on ebay for over $1000. WTH? Sorry, Mr. Gold, I will not be adding you to my collection unless I happen to stumble over one while trying to find the few doubles I want for my kids.

Ok, on to the figures. There are some really nice ones in this set. First up, the Librarian. She comes with a cup (its says shhh!) and a very large book called "Oranges and Peaches". Sorry its upside down. The book is very hard to get into a figures hand, so she's just leaning against it. I like the knitted sweater on this figure.
IMG_1021.JPG
Next up, Medusa. Here she is from the front and the back. The snake hair is awesome, as is, well the whole figure. LEGO completely nailed this one.
IMG_1022.JPG
The Roman commander. I know that the fringe on his helmet is depicted going from left to right, instead of front to back like I have it, and that may even be the correct way to put it, but this is how I think it should go. He also comes with a Roman short sword. The detail on his uniform is very good.
IMG_1024.JPG
The warrior woman comes with a spear and a shield. The bio of the warrior woman on the minifigure site is quite funny. The shield emblem is very nice.
IMG_1026.JPG
The Tomahawk Warrior. His tomahawk is one piece, and the Mohawk hair clearly identifies his real tribe, but lets not get picky. Good printing on head and chest.
IMG_1027.JPG
The skydiver, front and back shot. The parachute backpack is quite small, hope it opens. The scared look on his face is priceless. I hope that people have always wanted to make a skydiving team, since this guy is one of the most common figures in this series.
IMG_1028.JPG
The bumblebee girl. Every series it seems has a person in an animal costume, so this is the one for series 10. She comes with plastic wings and a honey pot. The helmet comes off of course.
IMG_1030.JPG
Grandpa comes with a plain coffee cup and a copy of his favorite newspaper "The Old Times". LOL. I love the hairpiece. Its kind of hard to make out with the flash, but he's trying to get a comb over going on his bald head. The back of the torso includes suspenders.
IMG_1031.JPG
Paintball player. Comes with a paintball gun (very nice) and helmet. The paint splatters are very nice. There is also one on his back (not shown).
IMG_1033.JPG
The sea captain. This is a great figure. He comes with binoculars, a sea gull, and very nice captains hat.
IMG_1034.JPG
The sad clown. This guy reminds me of an old episode of Sienfeld for some reason. He comes with pointy hat, collar piece in black, and the face makeup includes a tear drop.
IMG_1035.JPG
Revolutionary soldier (front and back shot). I seriously can not understand how they waged war back then. They would arrange a time to meet, and show up and start shooting at each other. YIKES! Anyway, the back of the torso has some nice printing, and the wig has a bow in it!
IMG_1036.JPG
The Trendsetter. She comes with a cellphone and dog. None of the girl minifigures in this set come with skirt piece this time around. I like the accessories better then I do the figure.
IMG_1038.JPG
The ball player. Instead of a bat, this one comes with a glove. A nice figure.
IMG_1039.JPG
The house painter. I love the paint roller accessory. The overalls seen here from the front and back, have paint spatters on them.
IMG_1040.JPG
The biker mechanic. Very nice torso (seen here from the front and back) and comes with a wrench. This guy will no doubt end up in a lot of biker gang MOCs.
IMG_1042.JPG
All of series 10. I like this set. There isn't a single figure that I don't like.
IMG_1045.JPG
And just to show off, here is my complete collection. 152 out of the 161 collectible minifigures released so far. (Missing only Mr. Gold and 8 from series 1.)
IMG_1047.JPG
So go, go get series 10, and find Mr. Gold (if you can)!

Was wondering about the same thing, but I will help everyone out.

Hard as hell to get. Worth over $100 if you can find one. Not made of any kind of real gold! Comes with scepter with a diamond on top, or it can be a diamond and a gold light saber. If Lego plans to do this from this series on, I might freak out.

HA! And don't forget Lego has created this clever map/countdown tool to aid in your excitement/anxiety when hunting for/selling Mr. Gold. (That's a 'choose your own adventure' sentence.)

enjoy!

Forget Mr Gold, the trendsetter has been impossible for me to find... Feel for the dog or the phone or the hair??? Hair seems similar to librarian...

The phone is the easiest to find, since its just a 1x2 piece.

A lot of people has found the similarity, and she has already been nicknamed as Xena.
