Has 10229 Winter Village Cottage already been retired? Why was it advertised at the back of this calendar? The local store even managed clearance sale at Spring to kick them out !?

Re: LEGO Store Calendar November 2013
10229 Winter Village Cottage hasn't been tagged as soon to retire. I've seen some situations where a store needs to clearance an item just to get a whole bunch more in. I don't get the logic, but hopefully that is the case. In the past, they were keeping the last three Winter sets available and now they just have the two which would make the most sense going forward. Although I admit when they first started the series, I thought they would only have one set available each Winter.
I wonder what the second holiday promo set will be like. The first one is pretty cool, but 3300014 (2012 Christmas set) is so far the best holiday promo IMO.

i hate how they split it up, but im still gonna buy so i get both the winter promo sets...
Re: LEGO Store Calendar November 2013
^ They did it that way two years ago. Frankly, I was disappointed that we only got one promo last year.

Yes they did and by far the best in my opinion.vynsane wrote:^ They did it that way two years ago. Frankly, I was disappointed that we only got one promo last year.

Re: LEGO Store Calendar November 2013
The 2012 promo was awesome.

It had 4 minifigures and a horse. If considering each promo its own standalone ~100 piece set, I would choose it as my favorite. It was a perfect add-on to the Winter Village Cottage and other Winter sets. Plus since it was only available on Black Friday, you got some of the best deals of the year from Shop@Home which I prefer over double points.
The first 2013 promo set is also nice and goes well with Winter Village Market, but the second 2013 promo is just alright. They should have added a light strand, a second tree, or a light post. It barely is holiday passable. (It mostly looks like Bella's truck from Twilight Saga.)
I can live without the 2011 promos. I don't even have the first set and I don't consider them fitting with the rest of the Winter sets because of the format. They are nice standalone, but not as part of the Winter Village unless you just used the pieces to fill interior. In comparison, I like the truck better than these.
I have the holiday train too, but it is hard to hold on to since it will sell for $400. Wish I bought doubles back then like I do now.

Yeah, I'm not disparaging last year's exclusive holiday set in any way, I like it a lot. I was just disappointed that there was only one
I agree the 2011 sets don't really integrate at all with a Winter Village display, but it was the first set to come with a 1x1 round tile and had a lot of dark red bricks to make the walls, so that was cool!
I like this year's sets, although it looks like this tiny village has an over-abundance of Christmas Tree vendors, what with the stand and horse-drawn-cart from the Bakery. But it looks like these guys are going to put them out of business, since they have a truck!

Re: LEGO Store Calendar November 2013
I'm reasonably new to buying LEGO sets because my kids (7 & 5) are really into building. As a result, I'm becoming more interested in different sets. These holiday sets really grabbed my personal attention so I just put in a shop at home order to get the 2013 promo set 1/2. I had no idea that they made the promo sets in years past so thanks for the pictures!
My questions are: How long have the winter themed sets been around? Are there more sets similar to the Winter Cottage and Winter Market? I really like those and would love to add more to my collection.

This is the 5th year, the previous set names are below. They have been retired and maybe hard to find at msrp.mirrorboxer wrote:I'm reasonably new to buying LEGO sets because my kids (7 & 5) are really into building. 2009 Winter Village Toy Shop (set # 10199)
2010 Winter Village Bakery (10216)
2011 Winter Village Post Office (10222)
I love the winter series!

Re: LEGO Store Calendar November 2013
Thanks for the info!
At least I'm not too far behind. I was afraid that these have been around for the past decade and would be near impossible to find. Considering I'm new at this, can anyone point me in a good direction to grab these at a decent price? Or, does anyone have any extra of these that they could help me with?

Re: LEGO Store Calendar November 2013
Ebay and bricklink are your best bet. Some Toys R Us down in the states might still have at least the more recent one out of the three in stock.mirrorboxer wrote:Thanks for the info!

eBay, OK. I looked in Toys R Us on my way home from work, but no dice. They didn't have a single winter set in stock.
Now what is bricklink and how would I use it most effectively in this situation?

Re: LEGO Store Calendar November 2013
BrickLink.com is like Ebay but for Lego only. Try and find one locally and see if the seller can do local pickup to save shipping I guess, but if you are already in the states, shipping should not be much. What you are looking for is under Buy Lego -> Sets -> Holiday -> Christmas. And from the look of it, 10199 Winter Toy Shop being the oldest set will cost you the most.mirrorboxer wrote:eBay, OK. Re: LEGO Store Calendar November 2013
I actually liked the 2012 Holiday promo set and the previous year Holiday promo 2 set and this years Holiday promo 2 set however I'm not a fan of having to go out to get them at separate times/days but from the pictures that 'dulait' posted I'll be trying to.
