Sears 20% sales + $20 off $100

Post by Brick75T » Fri Nov 08, 2013 10:58 am

Hi there,

Sears.ca currently has quite a few lego sets at 20% off. I also received an email promotion today that gives an extra $20 off for orders over $100, or $50 for order total > $200. It is on the main webpage 'customer appreciation days'. Add that to the 2% 'cashback' you get when paying with a Sears mastercard... I ordered two sets and came close to 40% off.

Ps. Free shipping to stores as well, if it is over $100 (I believe that is the minimum anyway). I know they have a problem with packaging - lots of damaged boxes, but at least you can immediately return it if you have it delivered to the store.

Thanks!

Ebates or Fatwallet also have 1% and 1.5% cashback respectively.

I picked up:

75019 AT-TE $73.75
79007 Battle at the Black Gate $46.11
75005 Rancor's Pit $46.11

These are awesome prices for Canada and approaching hot deals in the states!

Total damage HST in: $187.54 - 1.5% Cashback (on pre-tax portion).

Do you have to do anything to get the extra money off or does it just come off automatically when you buy?

With free shipping over $100, it is around 33% off before any cashbacks. Not bad, the discount is sure better than what Walmart, Target and Toys R Us have to offer at the moment.

thanks for the heads up

best deal is to hit exactly $200 and use the $50 off coupon code - works out to be exactly 40% off when taxes considered. (0.80 x 0.75 = 0.60)

was able to achieve that with
at te, $71.99
duel on geonosis, $30
homing spider, $24
stagecoach $23.97

= $199.96 pre tax and the coupon for $50 off still worked, so $149.96 plus taxes.

the at te pretty much matched the bn.com bogo 50% sale so now I have too many at te's but best deal on the others to date.

I think I want to buy some more!

yep $200 is the benchmark to hit for best discount. Mine was $202. Didn't know $199 also applies.
ordered Chi Temple and some other stuff. Happy with this deal, thx OP.

looks like amazon.ca is matching the 20% off on similar lego sets on their website, but of course no additional coupon!

OP here: Update ... sears just cancelled part of my order without explanation! When I called them, they said 'the manufacturer couldn't deliver the item on the date that was provided to you'... So no Black Gate set for me. Absolutely @#$@#$ annoying. You'd expect that a company whose main business is mail order could actually get that right.

I knew it! They did this to me a year ago! Canceled part of my order without a **! They said it was out of stock but it showed in stock when I made my order! I ended up paying retail price for the set that delivered 'cause the Sale requires to get $150 at least. Remember to check your payment on your credit card before you open any set, you can at least return your order if you have to pay retail price

I immediately returned the other set when I went to pick it up, it just wasn't worth it to me anymore. Good advice though, thanks.

I'm in the same boat re: Blackgate… Very annoying. I got about 11 sets in today and the AT-TE box was ripped on both sides so it's going back, the rest seemingly survived even though they were literally thrown together in a Sears plastic bag and handed to UPS for delivery! Absolutely atrocious! And Sears wonders why they are going bankrupt… How difficult is it to use a proper box for shipping this kind of items!

Anyways… The discount was pretty good so I can't complain too much but I feel sorry for this company…

^Yup - that's my rule of thumb. If I will discard the box anyways (I have way too many anyways) I order from Sears. Only once (couple of years back) was I actually missing lego bags from the inside of the boxes - at that point they simply placed an UPS label on a lego box. No wonder...

Nowadays they at least place it in their shipping 'bags'... gotta give em credit for that!

How can they charge a different or regular price on pickup when they are the one whom cancelled part of what you have ordered. Other retailers honor the price shown on the invoice on the remainning items if the cancellation happened on their end. I would call or email them about something like this since being a customer, we are right most of the time. Good luck to those calling, most of the time you will get a CSR that do not speak proper english, get ready to repeat phases and words like, what, excuse me, pardon me, please repeat, can I speak to someone in proper english please, and so forth. Then again Sears is pretty much dead, so no point in arguing.

This is interesting. I checked and the order that had the Blackgate, which was cancelled from the order, had two other sets: Rancor Pit and AT-TE.

After deciphering the "Receipt" Sears had slapped on to the packs, and comparing them with my online receipt, it looks like they were both charged at the discounted price. I'll have to keep an eye on the actual charges on my statement but I suspect Blackgate was cancelled after they had shipped the other two as both receipts say they were shipped and billed separately. Otherwise I would have had to return another two sets...

Sears shipping really blows, wrap it in a sears shopping bag and ship? Thought they would improve this time ...

Returning both my AT-TE's .. first one I don't even need to open to know, it is not even a box shape and not a smooth surface at all underneath the blue bag, second one, their shipping label says is AT-TE, but they shipped wrong item (not even LEGO). 0/2, at least last time I was 1/4 items that survived shipping. Last time I buy from them unless I want parts, too cheap to use boxes. Good riddance. /rant off.

Well, my story has a happy ending, which is surprising a bit after reading all your horror stories. I had mine shipped to the local Sears as I drive past it each day on the way to work. I had considered ordering the battle at the black gate set, but at the last minute switched it to a different set, so I felt relieved about that (sorry to bring up a painful memory for you Brick75T). Anyway, I went in to the store expecting the worst. Thankfully, the boxes were in perfect shape. They had slapped a receipt on each box with a light adhesive that thankfully pealed off with no trouble.

I got a Rancor Pit, a Colby City showdown, and a Constitution train chase for just over 11 cents a piece (including tax.)

My only suggestion from this experience is, if you can do it, have your items shipped to store instead of to your house.

I came home to find my recycling bin moved over, and low and behold the package from Sears was there.. I ordered some non-lego items and the Constitution Train, and the box was entirely crushed.. worse than I have ever received an item from Sears before.. absolutely terrible.. it's getting returned.

I don't think shipping to store is any better or worse (Brick75T had his shipped to store). Granted, UPS usually seems to have a rugby team in their sorting plants using packages as a ball, but if there is any takeaways from this thread, it's impossible to predict how your packages shipped from Sears will end up looking like by the time they reach you.

Of my 4-5 odd orders, ONE came in a huge a$$ box! It's really crazy! Almost 1/5 is taken with the Lego sets and the rest is just plain empty! Talk about overkill… Rest all came as like all of yours, in sears plastic shopping bags! At the end of it, 4 packages are going back cause of the packaging (or lack thereof)...

There is really no hope for this company IMO… Turning surefire sales in to dust by saving a few dollars in packaging is definitely a recipe that will plow them in to the ground...
