Investing question for a newbie.

Post by Bjnido » Tue Mar 11, 2014 4:23 pm

Hey everyone! I'm new to the the site and so far, I really like it! I'm am also very new to investing and some of the more recent/common Lego things due to being in my "dark age" for quite a while. I was wondering though, is the Hobbit Barrel Escape worth to buy an extra to sell later since it's on sale right now with the $25 TRU sale?

Thanks!

I would say 'no'. TRU cleared out a large stack of them in Dec for $20 each, and there are now 169 stores on amazon offering them for sale. Although the set has some unique qualities, I don't think they are enough to clear out the reseller backlog anytime soon.

Last week saw a number of better options, but that does help you much now. There will be better opportunities to grow $25 in the near future (by May 4th at the latest), so I would hold off on Barrel Escape.

I thought about it myself as well. I actually pulled the trigger on one... mainly because I wanted to get the Wizard Battle, get to $40 to get a Gift Card, and use my $5 TRU bucks... I was able to justify my purchase to myself obviously lol. I do expect to sit on the set for a while before it eventually goes, or I turn into "more elves".

Hobbit/LotR has been strange for investments... you would think such an epic tale would demand high prices and loyalty like Star Wars or Harry Potter... but when I see a great set like Warg Attack sit constantly at 30% and not get bought, it tells me that they've probably made way too many sets. Even with Barrel Escape being a TRU exclusive, I don't think the draw for the set will make it a huge winner. Completionists and Super-Fans will buy it up, but there is already heavy supply available.
I have mixed feelings about new releases: I can't wait to see and get the new sets... but I can't figure out where I'm gonna put them or store them.

I agree with you. There will be better opportunities to grow $25 by May 4th or 6th at the latest.

Indiana Jones isnt too bad, but why invest in a single figure? Youre better off buying whole sets on clearance and sellig them later or parting them out.
