Re: Target Canada 1 Year Anniversary LEGO Sales & Deals
My location had a few of the big Chima sets (the castle and alligator boat thing) left at 50% off. I grabbed the gorilla one. They also had a number of the dropship sets from SW.
Another location I happened upon had Jabba's barge. 30-40% off that one was good enough for me.

That is the thinking that lead to sets that will never drop more than 50%, look at Walmart, people are buying them at full price or simply at 10-20% off. Why would they want to drop it further? If people keep this up, we might not even see 50% off in our near future, since alot of people whom are new or just stuburn to this, collecting or reselling, might THINK 25-30% is a GREAT deal.dqfritzke wrote:50% off is still a good deal so people will buy because there will be very little chance to get them at this discount again. "Toys For More" in Canada seems to never discount lego to 50% and lately Walmart discounts have disappeared. I want the SW gunship but it's still expensive even at the current 30% discount.dulait wrote:I have said it many times before, IF people are sucking them up at 30-50%, why would they drop it more? We might see some of the 30% drop more but with all the reports of the 50% being wiped clean, I highly doubt we will see 75%.

Eh, Target is still struggling to draw foot traffic in Canada. We should be good to go for at least another year or two of good clearance deals from them since goodness knows they don't move much product at full price.dulait wrote:If people keep this up, we might not even see 50% off in our near future, since alot of people whom are new or just stuburn to this, collecting or reselling, might THINK 25-30% is a GREAT deal.

Yes they might be desperate but at the same time they are not stupid either. If they see things sell at 50% off at a fast paste, depends on the region, they will start the discount from 25-40% the next time and so forth. Again, look at Walmart, they rarely have things on discount for 50% or more any more because people suck them up faster then them changing the price.Blacknight wrote:Eh, Target is still struggling to draw foot traffic in Canada. 30% sets are now 50%
Re: Target Canada 1 Year Anniversary LEGO Sales & Deals
Yes they are but most are gone when they were 30%, I guess if they brought it within 1-2 weeks they can price adjust. The 50% sets are still 50 because they are mostly sold out.wintersun wrote:30% sets are now 50%

My Target did not have any clearance sets in the first place. In fact, most of the shelves are empty spaces. with pricetags. Such a shame.

Re: Target Canada 1 Year Anniversary LEGO Sales & Deals
Price adjusted the gunship I bought a week ago with no issues. Thanks for the heads up.

Nice thanks for the heads up. For any interested Central City Surrey still has LOTR Pirate Ships and SW AT-TE, Homing Spider Droid and that Count Dooku set at 50% off. I grabbed two ships for myself.

Appreciate the heads up.wintersun wrote:30% sets are now 50%
Interesting timing. Between a weekend and a stat holiday. Things were looking pretty bare at 30% but I'll check back in on Wednesday. Chances of any SW hitting 75% again are remote I think given the rush on 30%.
Wonder if they are just going to keep the rest at 50% too or drop it at some point.

This, is the smart thing to do.joelones wrote:Price adjusted the gunship I bought a week ago with no issues. Thanks for the heads up.

Not really, just think, if you are a seller, if all your products sold out at 30% off, why the hell would you need to drop it to 50% when you have no stock left? At 50% I can understand why some people panic. Try it for those that do not believe.crom71 wrote:This, is the smart thing to do.joelones wrote:Price adjusted the gunship I bought a week ago with no issues. Thanks for the heads up.

Target is a huge company so they would not just randomly decide to lose money by marking down products if they did not have reason to do so. They need shelf space for all the new sets coming out. This is a great thing for us buyers so I am happy.

For any serious retailers, stocks on shelves need to be refresh at a certain rate. A good way to do this while keeping the patrons in their store is to do such clearances. Stores like Zellers (and Sears) did not understand that. They used to keep overpriced and/or unwanted items gathering dust while they could have replace them with fresher and more appealing items.
Variety and space on shelves are time and money so for them, it's a good thing to lose money on certain items if they know they can catch and overcome their losses later with the next batch. Inventory must be kept rolling.

It would also be interesting to see how much a Retailer such as Target actually pays for the product - they must be at least getting 50% off the RRP/MSRP - if not more. So even selling stock at 50% off isn't hurting them a lot (however, overhead still costs) but at lest they have the shelf-space back in no time - to stock the new stuff that will keep people coming in frequently.

You're lucky.joelones wrote:Price adjusted the gunship I bought a week ago with no issues. Thanks for the heads up.
Target's policy is to not price adjust on clearance merchandise.
From the policy they emailed me ... "We’re unable to make any adjustments on clearance merchandise."
Re: Target Canada 1 Year Anniversary LEGO Sales & Deals
I guess I was lucky, just happened to be serviced by a customer service rep who didn't know the policy - in fact neither did I. Caught a break, it was actullay closer to two weeks before the price dropped to 50% - was a bit remorseful when I purchased the the gunship at $104.99+tax.CraigV wrote: You're lucky.

Re: Target Canada 1 Year Anniversary LEGO Sales & Deals
^^ I'm sure it's possible and happens as you've noted. Reps and managers can likely make an adjustments if they decide to. Just not the normal policy, which is understandable as some seasonal merch (xmas, Halloween) will go down to 90% off. People would start "gaming" the clearance process. They would just have to buy what they want at 25% off ... then ask for the adjustment when it reaches 90% off. Which technically could result in all the store's clearance being sold at 90% off.
Anyway ... good job on getting the adjustment! Always nice to save a bit more $.
