Keeping track of Lego collection

Post by danielnzlego » Thu Feb 13, 2014 7:06 pm

With 289 sets in total I've had a long-term problem of not being sure of having a set (if seeing in store) and buying twice, or wondering how much I paid for a set, or wondering just how many sets I've made... and most interestingly, how much I've spent!

Being a programmer for 10+ years I thought it would be quite cool to build a tool to keep track of my Lego. Even better would be a tool that any collector could use to build and maintain their collection... Lego, recipes, comic books, URL bookmarks and so on. Without any programming, database, or web design know-how.

I wondered if people would check out my sharable Lego collection and tell me what you think and if this would be something you'd find useful... whether for Lego or any number of things.

The power is in the search where you can do a Custom Search or a Predefined Search. So if you choose Predefined you'll see a number of preset options I've set up that show my theme collections, or sets I've made, or how many bricks in total across all my sets.

Look forward to feedback so I can determine if this project is worth continuing on with. You may come across a few bugs, so please be sympathetic that it's not 100% tested and bug-free.

sounds very similar to what brickpicker has in place for their portfolio management database. Although your site could be used for any type of collection, not just lego
