Habitat 67 - Next Potential LEGO Architecture 2012 Set?
Update: Voting did not end yet as you can still vote at LEGO.com. Everyone gets 3 votes. Though, if you clear your history/cache or use a different browser, you can vote again. If you don't like Habitat 67 or was hoping for another Architecture set, then get your votes in!
It appears that the next 2012 LEGO Architecture set will most likely be Habitat 67 based on the votes at the LEGO.com Architecture Microsite. Over 100 000 votes were for Habitat 76 with the runner up right now as Coliseum with 80 000 votes.
Habitat 67 housing complex is a landmark situated in Montreal, Canada. Primarily for the city's Expo in the 1960s, it has now become a major famous landmark in Canada. We'll definately see some interesting build from this unique housing complex when it turns to LEGO form as LEGO Habitat 67! You can learn more about the Habitat 67 landmark at the Huffington Post or at the Official Habitat 67 site.
Thanks to Jeff for letting us know of the news.

Noo Make the Coliseum so I can put my gladiator minifigs inside :)
Re: Next LEGO Architecture 2012 Set - Habitat 67
I voted for 67 earlier today
Re: Next LEGO Architecture 2012 Set - Habitat 67
Hey there, there's a mistake in the article - Coliseum is the runner up with 81500 voices, not US Capitol. And Taipei 101 is close to Capitol as well.
I personally think Coliseum would be best choice - with quite complex, but still compact structure, much more attractive as a small gadget and decoration on my desk, and certainly much more recognizable than Habitat 67. Of course Habitat is also a decent architecture piece, but not good enough for the upcoming set
Do any of you know, when does this voting end?

I think any of those will be great as long as they make them a "big set".. those $19.99 sets are just horrible in my opinion.

I'm not sure I'll dig 67 or not. Either way there are a lot of higher options on my Lego Architecture wishlist.
RE: the $20 sets. They wouldn't be so bad if the price per piece wasn't so high

Thank you.Innos wrote:Hey there, there's a mistake in the article - Coliseum is the runner up with 81500 voices, not US Capitol. And Taipei 101 is close to Capitol as well.
When I checked the site today, there were 3 votes left. Not that it mattered, but I gave one vote each for Habitat 67, Coliseum and Capitol. I was trying the votes out and was suprised to find that there was no limit and you can vote as many times as you like. So...I believed I ended it.Innos wrote: Do any of you know, when does this voting end?

Actually, I don't think it ended yet. Everyone gets 3 votes. Though, if you clear your history/cache or use a different browser, you can vote again.
If you don't like Habitat 67, then get your votes in everyone! :)

I studied architecture, too, but I never saw Habitat before. Must not have been elitist enough for my school. The only reason this is getting votes is because of its build complexity, not because of its architectural significance.

I just like how 67 looks. I gave one vote each to Taipei, 67, and the Golden Pav.

It turns out that Habitat 67 won, but it's not going to be an Architecture set:

Not necessarily. I get the feeling that LEGO is going to consider it, but can't promise it will make the set or when it will make the set.autobrick wrote:It turns out that Habitat 67 won, but it's not going to be an Architecture set:

Kind of reminds me of the special minifigure set that was supposed to be made for VIPs. I remember voting for it last year, but it hasn't come out yet. Not sure if it will, but just because LEGO allows us to vote on things, doesn't mean it will necessarily become a product. The only exception is CUUSOO, whose goal is to produce a set when a project gets 10,000 votes.
Re: Habitat 67 - Next Potential LEGO Architecture 2012 Set?
The VIP Minifigure set was revealed in January to very little enthusiasm.
Frankly, I don't think Habitat 67 would have made an enthralling LEGO Architecture set. There is very little in the way of external details (windows, doors, artistic elements) on display in the smaller Architecture sets, and Habitat 67 would have ended up being little more than a jumble of LEGO blocks sticking out at different depths/heights.

Might be interesting as a Creator set or Modular.

Well, the minifigures that were chosen weren't what people wanted. I'm still of the opinion that the ones chosen through voting weren't in production so LEGO chose the next tier of figures. But that's what happens when LEGO gives people options that aren't really viable.vynsane wrote:The VIP Minifigure set was revealed in January to very little enthusiasm.

As for Habitat 67, I also don't think it's very interesting as a LEGO set. The Coliseum would have been much more interesting. This again begs the question of why LEGO put the Habitat as an option, but I guess they thought it might be interesting to some people.
Guess I'm in a little bit of a pessimistic mood lately about some of LEGO's decisions.
