It appears that the TRU sales for Bricktober week 2 are quite a bit weaker compared to the sales during the first week.
Pretty much LOTR 20% off (not too bad I guess, given that its the first sale), DINO 20% off as well as Technic 20% off...
Might get some Technic sets if they actually have the minifigure set at my local store (it's not a given).
You might also get a polybag with a ghost in it for purchases above $35.
See the two screenshots for details.

Yeah, and remember that most of the Lord of the Rings sets are marked up above MSRP at TRU, so its not really 20% off. However, Shelob Attacks is not marked up, and it has a very good price per piece ratio to start with, (and its the only way to get Gollum). So I'll grab it. See if I can find anything else that I want to at least get it up to %35 for the poly bag. Too bad, I wanted that black space man in this weeks give away.

The only set this week I would have considered picking up is a couple Urak Hai Armies to ad to my helms deep. Unfortunately, that set is 29% over US MSRP so the 20% off doesn't even bring it down to what it should cost. Guess I'll miss this week.

I'm pretty sure Shelob Attack is marked up too, since MSRP is $24.99, Toys R Us sell for $26.99.

Hmm, missed that. Well, a two dollar markup isn't much but it is a markup. This changes things. I almost forgot how much I hate TRU.

Nicely done hatcher!
Yeah, it stinks that TRU is putting their Lego tax on sets in Canada now...that used to be the one and only good thing about buying Lego up here.
The LOTR set prices seem to be between 5-10% higher than MSRP, so it's still 10-15% off, and if you spend $75 the freebies stack (from what I've read) so that works out alright (provided you want the vintage figs and that ghost set)...
So, meh, better than nothing but it certainly doesn't blow my socks off. I am stoked about the figs though, especially that red ninja!

Shelob is currently listed at $21.99 ($19.99 MSRP) at TRU (10% mark-up).

Wow...garbage sales...I want the free stuff mainly but I can't get myself to pay above US MSRP for a "sale" on things I don't really want.
Last week I bought a bunch, not this week...maybe ebay those figures..

Has anyone ever tried to contact TRU to ask about the reasoning behind such a big markup? I assume it is 'because we can' - but I can't help but feel they are losing out more by lost sales. I'd personally prefer to buy in a store and am willing to pay a small markup for the privilige, but when the diference is this big... Heck, even Sears Canada seems to have the Helm's Deep set for $149. So with 20% discount, TRU *just* manages to beat their regular price.

Indeed, it's a sad day if Sears regular price is lower than Toys R Us (always plenty of coupons at Sears - i.e. this week $50 off $200)...

Was at a Toys R Us just now, was gonna bite the bullet and get the vintage set 2. But I was short 70 cents from the total of $75, so I asked if I can just buy one of the ghost bag to make it over. The CSR called the manager and was told I cannot use that to bring my total up since the poly bag is not in their system. So I told myself to forget about it but decided to just buy the ghost poly just so I will not waste a trip. Yes, I was able to buy the ghost bag even when they said that it was not in their system. Thank you Toys R Us on making me save $70.

Yeah I actually went online earlier, planning to get the LOTR lego sets through them and get the $50 off- but in the fine print for that coupon they exclude pretty much everything (toys too, unfortunately). One gets the feeling they are only interested in selling clothes these days.

You're right - today's coupon excludes pretty much everything... odd, they usually leave toys in.

The weirdest thing about tru marking up Legos is that they have a price match policy:
http://www.toysrus.com/shop/index.jsp?c ... rice-Match" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Seems to me that you should be able to get any Lego set at MSRP at TRU.
The other thing, when you do a search for Lego Lord of the Rings on the TRU home page they will show you "list price $34.99, our price $32.99" for the Uruk Hai army. MSRP of that set is $29.99. That just seems false advertising to me (and more than a little shady!)
I am just amazed...

You should see Amazon. According to them, everything they sell is 40-60% off "list price," but they sell most non-books for the same price as everyone else.

what bugs me about this promotion is that to hit the $75 mark you have to buy 2 of midsized sets which puts you way over, 1 large set which is pricey as it is, or a whole bunch of filler items from different lines. doesn't take a genius to see this was intentional :'(
lego why do you sometimes have to be scummy like other toy companies? :(

^I believe that this is mostly ToysRUs's fault - they have leverage to set their own promotions.

They are the new version made with parts from China and Hungary.
